GBP Makes offer to Miguel Cotto for Saul Canelo fight!
Golden Boy Promotions has apparently met with Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31 KO’s) and created him a $10 million offer to deal with former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champ Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) for just a fight on Showtime pay-per-view up coming May, according to Fightnews. com. There is no word about if thez 33-years-old Cotto will accept the actual fight or not.

Cotto posseses an option of fighting WBC middleweight champ Sergio Martinez or his one hundred sixty lb. title. Cotto also features a chance of getting picked out by Floyd Mayweather for a rematch of their fight past year where Cotto gave him many problems. Cotto also has that less appealing likelihood of fighting the winner of the actual Erislandy Lara vs Austin Trout or facing IBF jr. middleweight champ Carlos Molina for his name.

Easily the best choice of all those fights with regard to money would be for Cotto to take on the 23-years-old Canelo, because that’s a bout that could likely bring in good PPV quantities. Canelo has a large fan base, and there would be many boxing fans interested in seeing the pair of them go to war for 12 units. Cotto vs. Sergio Martinez is a superb fight likewise, but Sergio’s legend has diminished not long ago with his less than impressive win more than Martin Murray past April. Sergio is starting to suffer many injuries and he’s beginning to exhibit his age. He is about to turn 39 next February, and this age is really starting to perform a number on his body having him struggling injuries one after another.

Floyd Mayweather could be smart if he were to choose Cotto for his next combat on May 3rd, because Mayweather doesn’t have many options for big names with 147 or 154. Now of which Mayweather has beaten Canelo, Cotto will be the next biggest name for Mayweather in order to fight at 154. At 147, Mayweather does not have high quality options at all to fight besides Manny Pacquiao. The top 147 pound. fighters – Adrien Broner, Devon Alexander, Keith Thurman, Amir Khan, Kell Brook, Tim Bradley, and Marcos Maidana – aren’t popular enough for Mayweather to have huge PPV numbers against these. Broner would be the best of that bunch, but he refuses in order to fight Mayweather. If Mayweather doesn’t combat Cotto again, then Khan might be the guy that he confronts in May. That’s not a good combat because Khan never redeemed himself from his losses to Lamont Peterson and also Danny Garcia, and his close to loss to Julio Diaz.
